IMPACT COMPANY GENERAL INFO

Impact is TDM's competition company for the serious, pre-professional dancer.

Auditions are held once a year in early June. Current company members are required to re-audition every year. Requirements for auditions are listed separately and include splits, across the floor combos, learning choreography for a short routine at the audition and performing it. Results are posted after the recital.

All four companies compete at local dance competitions about 5-6 times a year and perform the opening number at the recital. The companies also perform at charity events and other local performances. We also attend various optional conventions throughout the year including Dance Revolution (Christian Dance Convention). All companies are required to attend a 5 day camp prior to classes beginning in mid-August where they are taught various forms of dance such as jazz, tap, ballet, lyrical, musical theater and hip hop. At the camp, company dancers will get their big sisters and little sisters. Company members are required to purchase company warm-ups and company dance bags.

Our dancers are trained in the Cecchetti ballet method and take oral and local performance exams at least once a year including attending local Cecchetti Seminars. The dancers test Cecchetti grades and receive certificates for passed grades. Grades 1-4 are offered.

We accept apprentices who compete 1 dance per year but take all the classes for their level. He/She will understudy other competition dances.

Impact has a Booster Club that schedules social activities and raises funds for the companies including a year-end semi-formal banquet with a DJ, awards, and lots of fun! The dancers gather for swim parties, tea parties, lock-ins, movies, etc. and celebrate the end of each season with a formal banquet!

Please contact The Dance Movement directly regarding convention and tuition costs. Impact Dance Co. is directed by Heather Cobb.

LEVEL 4

Is our top pre-professional company with dancers aged 11 and up that have auditioned and been selected. They train in classes for level 4 company members four days weekly, are required to take four ballet and two jazz classes a week, a lyrical class, and various rehearsal classes. These dancers are also encouraged to take tap, musical theater, modern, and hip hop but it is not required. Our program is structured in that a dancer can be one level in ballet but a different level in jazz to maximize training for the dancer. It is tailored to each dancer's needs. These dancers usually compete 3-6 dances per year including solos.

LEVEL 3

Is one of our top companies with dancers aged 10 and up that have auditioned and been selected. They train in classes for level 3 company members four days weekly which include four ballet classes, two jazz classes, a lyrical class, and various rehearsal classes.

LEVEL 2

Is our company with dancers aged 10 and up that have auditioned and been selected. They train in an invitation only classes for level 2 company members four days weekly including: three ballet classes, two jazz classes, a lyrical class, tap class and various rehearsal classes. These dancers are also encouraged to take musical theater, modern, and hip hop but it is not required. Our program is structured in that a dancer can be one level in ballet but a different level in jazz to maximize training for the dancer. It is tailored to each dancer's needs. These dancers typically compete 2-5 dances per year. Second year level 2 dancers are permitted to do solos.

LEVEL 1

This company is a select group of 7-11 year olds that have auditioned and have been selected to accelerate their training in an invitation only class. They train in jazz class two times weekly and are required to take three ballet classes a week plus lyrical, tap and rehearsal classes. First year (new) level 1 dancers are required to take additional summer classes in advance of the fall classes to accelerate their abilities closer to the current (second year) level 1 dancers. These dancers are also encouraged to take tap, musical theater, modern, and hip hop but it is not required. Our program is structured in that a dancer can be one level in ballet but a different level in jazz to maximize training for the dancer. It is tailored to each dancer's needs. These dancers typically compete 2-3 dances per year. Level 1 dancers do not compete solos.

Level 1 company members will not receive an invitation back into level 1 the school year after they turn eleven. Our hope is that they will have developed their abilities and will want to move up to level 2 company which is one of our goals for level 1 dancers.
